It is truly said that the best brains of the nation may be found on the last benches of the classroom. The story of AAHAR began with 2 enthusiastic backbenchers discussing about starting an organisation which would help in the betterment of the society. The issue of poverty and hunger was one such thing which concerned them the most. They had the idea of what they wanted to do as they had volunteered in one such NGO, but the main question that arose was how and from where they should begin. They grabbed their bicycles and went off to research the local slums of the nearby area. After weeks of effort they were finally able to find out two slums in which they decided to start the drive. Some friends also joined them. But soon everything started falling out of place as many members started leaving the group. They realised that in order to make this a success they will have to promote it effectively. So, the name of AAHAR was adopted for this wonderful initiative. Many volunteers with a similar determination have joined the group.
A happy, healthy and creative child whose rights are protected and honoured in a society that is built on respect for dignity, justice and equity for all. This drive was started with students taking food from mess of the campus to the nearby slums. Almost 200 kgs of food which would get wasted was being put to a good use. The AAHAR volunteers have successfully conducted more than 100 drives and have filled 25000 empty stomachs. As this drive is entirely volunteer based it faces a lot of financial difficulties. It takes more than Rs.200 per drive for transporting the food. It is a very beautiful initiative taken by these people which is helping them in making a difference and perform their bit for the nation.
